An Army of Darkness

One night, while no one was watching, an army of darkness drove in the streets of Montreal.

Between shadow and light, there's a whole story that can be told, more often than not found by accident.

You walk in a park, and then you find yourself surrounded by shadow, even though everything around is still flooded by street lights. Then you take a shot, without moving, hiding in the dark...

A ghost story

A haunted parking lot. Some ghosts were seen during this shooting. Some were captured on other pictures, some were just there, almost invisible. Some of those ghosts were imaginary, others were real. We traded tips on how to shoot parking lots and abandoned alleyways, how to capture the very moment of transcendence when the light hits the filmstrip CCD and gets trapped on it, for almost ever.

Then we drank a beer, parted way and went back home, where he was still waiting for me, for another round of tips on tricks of the trade.

Another haunted place, another part of the city

Another haunted place, another part of the city

St-Patrick Street is the easiest way around the trafic jams for whoever comes from the Southwest part of Montreal. You easily avoid the highways and the narrow Notre-Dame Street, while still being able to reach far into the Old Port

It is also a definitive truckers route, considering the number of factories that you come accross when you drive there. St-Patrick goes as far as Lachine on its western stretch.

Train tracks are a constant reminder of the importance of St-Patrick and its area as a big industrial park located a couple of miles only from downtown that it used to be in the past.

The other stricking things when you travel down St-Patrick Street are the very old factories that you can see on this side of the Canal Lachine. For a brief moment, you can feel that accross the canal, you're not even in the same year as you are on St-Patrick.

Don't be surprised if you see other pictures from this part of Montreal on this photoblog.

Yes I was born on the island.

No I didn't always lived here.

This is the sight you have at the end of the street where I lived, in my hometown.

Pretty different than the Plateau.

Mile End

At Midnight, a view of a near-dead street and a haunting building with broken windows.

Put on a Godspeed You Black Emperor! record (or an mp3 playlist) and drive slowly.

Like destiny, those lines meet but never really fulfill their connections. This picture was taken during the shooting of a movie by a crew with whom I never had really any link outside the art of movie-making. I don't have any contact with them anymore and never saw the final version of the movie, tough I have all of the pictures, still moments of that weekend. This one was not even related to the movie, I was just wandering around, waiting for everybody to be ready.
